FC Wangen wants to stay ahead of Friedrichshafen

Before the last game of the regional league qualifying season south, the FC Wangen footballers are still undefeated. After the 3-0 win in Reinstetten, the Allgäu team also took over the league lead from VfB Friedrichshafen and now want to defend it against FV Biberach on Thursday. Kick-off at the Allgäu Stadium is at 2 p.m.

“We are starting from scratch in the championship round, but the team and I are already enjoying first place and also the fact that we are ahead of VfB Friedrichshafen,” says Joachim Baur. Of course, Wangen’s coach also knows that such table constellations sometimes give wings and make football even more fun. Mentally, i.e. your head, you can only benefit from it. In this respect, he is quite satisfied with the situation before the game against FV Biberach.

Joachim Baur expects “highly motivated” people from Biberach

The opponent certainly wasn’t able to do what the squad promised and what was expected in the round, said Baur. “Nevertheless, I expect a team of equals that will be highly motivated to win with us.” The team will do everything they can to take advantage of the theoretical chance of qualifying for the promotion round.

The Biberach man also expects this attitude on the sidelines. “If everything works for us and we do our homework, it could even be enough,” says coach Bernd Maier, knowing full well that this possibility is rather small than minimal. In order to get into the top four, a win in Wangen with a difference of at least two goals must be followed by a clear defeat by SV Reinstetten in Menges and a defeat by FV Rot-Weiß Weiler in their own stadium against FV Ravensburg II. “To be honest, we have to say that the starting position is very difficult, if not impossible,” emphasizes Maier, but the settlement will be settled after the game.

Maier may have to do without his most recently active players at the Allgäu Stadium. Captain Robin Biesinger is suspended after his yellow-red card, and Jonathan Hummler had to leave the pitch early against Weiler due to groin problems. In addition, defender Luca Deufel, who is also injured, could also be out. “In the end, it doesn’t matter who we play with, it’s more important how we play,” says Bernd Maier.

Wangen’s squad width is having a positive impact

Two years ago, back in the association league era, FV Biberach took the points from Wangen in a crucial game. “I wasn’t in office yet, but I’ve heard about it,” explains Baur. Nevertheless, he is also looking forward to the game because his team is in a very good mood and demonstrated that again in Reinstetten against a surprisingly strong opponent. This is mainly due to the team spirit and the significantly increased cohesion in the team. Baur: “In the past few games I have always rotated, changing three or four positions and the players are following along very well.”

It is now becoming noticeable that the squad is very well positioned across the board and each player can almost replace the other. “There is no noticeable loss of quality when rotating or making a substitution,” said the FCW coach. That might also be the deciding factor against FV Biberach.
