Dhaka / New Delhi: Amid the student agitation and political developments in Bangladesh, the field is filled with fake news. Alt News reports that the footage of a building in Bangladesh being set on fire is being circulated as if a Hindu temple had been set on fire, including in the Indian media.

Sea News Madhya Pradesh – Chhattisgarh and News 24 all reported that the Hindu temple was destroyed by fire.

Hindutvadis came forward on social media. Accounts on X, such as Hindu Voice and Random Sena, shared this news and footage and captioned it as Hindu arson by Islamists.

However, Bangladeshi fact-checker Shohanur Rahman tweeted that the building destroyed by the fire, which went viral on social media, was not a Hindu temple, but a restaurant in Satkhira, Bangladesh. Alt News reports that he shared the screenshots titled Raj Prasad Coffee Shop, Rekhachitram. A website from Bangladesh called Kalora Speech has also clarified this.

Moreover, many vlogs about the said restaurant are also available on YouTube. According to the Alt News report, the restaurant is owned by Kazi Asadujjaman Shahzada, the leader of the Jubo League, the youth wing of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League.
