Following the accident in which a fourth-grade boy drowned and died during a swimming lesson at a junior high school pool, Kochi City submitted a supplementary budget proposal to the extraordinary assembly to set up a third-party accident investigation committee.

On July 5th, a fourth-grade boy attending Nagahama Elementary School in Kochi City drowned and died during a swimming lesson in the junior high school’s pool.

Kochi City plans to set up a third-party investigation committee to investigate the cause of the accident and take measures to prevent a recurrence, and submitted a supplementary budget proposal of 11 million yen for the establishment of the committee to the extraordinary city council meeting that opened on July 30.

“We will set up an investigation committee as soon as possible and will work with the Board of Education and other relevant departments to make every effort to ensure that the investigation and investigation proceeds smoothly. Based on the findings of the investigation committee, we will then consider measures to prevent a recurrence so that swimming lessons can be held safely from next fiscal year onwards.”

The Kochi City Council’s July Special Session will run until July 31st.
