JR Matsuyama Station in Ehime Prefecture is undergoing redevelopment in the surrounding area in line with the elevation of the tracks, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2024.

The current station building has a rather retro feel for a prefectural capital station, even by national standards.“New Station Building”was meant to revamp this image.

What will the new station be like? And how will the town around the station develop in the future?

We have summarized the latest status of the construction work, as well as the plans of local governments and JR Shikoku that are likely to be realized in the future.

Scheduled for completion in the fall of 2024, what will happen to the tracks with the “elevated” structure?

At JR Matsuyama Station, the Yosan Line, which connects Ehime and Kagawa, is being elevated over the road. The section is about 2.4 km long, from Misawa 2-chome to Kuukodori 1-chome in Matsuyama City.

This elevated railway project was originally scheduled to be completed in 2017, when the Ehime National Athletic Meet will be held, but was abandoned due to the prefecture’s financial difficulties.

Construction began in February 2009, but land acquisition proved difficult, and the planned completion date was significantly pushed back from 2020 to spring 2024.

In January of last year, “design errors” were discovered in two places on the overpass, which led to a further delay of six months to completion in the fall of 2024.
