Electric vehicle charging: KSEB to reduce rates

Refer Report

Thiruvananthapuram – KSEB to reduce daytime charges for charging electric vehicles and provide basic facilities at charging centers. These will be converted into refresh and recharge centers. KSEB’s 63 charging centers are getting a makeover. Later, charging centers will come up all over the state. Currently, many of the 63 are non-functional. Contracts will be called for private investors to make the charging centers high-tech. Toilet facilities will be provided here. Soft drink centers will also be started.

Apart from KSEB, at least eight companies are running charging stations. All of them have separate mobile app and charging methods. Even the devices are different so some vehicles cannot be charged. KSEB organized a meeting of vehicle charging equipment manufacturers to consolidate all this.

It will collaborate with Rocky Mountain Institute, a leading international company in the field.

KSEB will soon announce a significant relaxation of EV charging during the day due to the surplus of daytime electricity with increased generation including from solar projects. KSEB has decided to strictly discourage night charging in households. The prepaid method at charging centers will also change. Payment can be made by scanning the QR code. There will also be a software system where if the money is charged without payment, then wherever the charge is made in Kerala, the dues will have to be paid.
