In Norway, nine out of ten new cars are electric.

The Norwegian Road Traffic Information Institute (OFV) announced on the 2nd (local time) that 14,800 new vehicles, or 94.3% of new vehicles registered in August, were electric vehicles. This is a sharp increase of about 13 percentage points (p) compared to the same month last year.

The cumulative number of new electric vehicles registered from January to August this year was 68,435, accounting for 86.8% of all new vehicles (78,832 units).

Among electric vehicles sold in August, Tesla’s Model Y ranked first with 19% (2,107 units), followed by the Volvo EX30 and Skoda Enyaq.

Norway has been consistently implementing various incentive policies, such as tax breaks, to promote electric vehicles since 1990. Although some of the benefits have been reduced or reorganized recently, compared to other countries, the benefits for purchasing electric vehicles are still significant.

The Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association (NEVA) predicted that if this trend continues, electric vehicles could reach 100% market share in the new car market by January next year.
