Bayern’s sports director Max Eberl has criticized the one-game suspension for Munich goalkeeper Sven Ulreich after a verbal misfire in the top Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen (1-1). “In my opinion it’s too hard,” Eberl said on DAZN before Bayern’s Champions League game at Aston Villa.
As a comparison, Eberl used Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne, who a few years ago “badly insulted a ball boy with a worse word. He just got a fine. For Ulle now a fine and a ban from the game – I think it’s excessive. But we won’t leave Ulle alone, we’ll get through this together.”
Ulreich had previously been suspended for one game by the control committee of the German Football Association. The keeper also has to pay a fine of 20,000 euros. The DFB announced this. Ulreich and FC Bayern have already agreed to the verdict.
Ulreich apologized to Rolfes
A video by Ulreich caused a stir on the Internet and brought the DFB onto the scene. In the short clip, recorded during Munich’s top game on Saturday, the angry Bayern substitute goalkeeper can be seen on the bench. Beforehand you can hear the loud complaint “Zeitspiel”, then the demand: “Stop over there, you bum.” Ulreich can then be seen saying “Hey, hey, sit down Rolfes, you wanker”. There is applause – and a “yes, Ulle” can be heard.
Ulreich has already contacted Rolfes and apologized. “That’s it for me,” said the Leverkusen sports director after his team’s 1-0 (0-0) win in the Champions League against AC Milan.
