Thiruvananthapuram: It has been decided in principle to stop the printing of driving license and RC in the state. The transport department is of the opinion that there is no need for printed documents in modern times where digital technology is widely used. Transport Commissioner Ch. Nagarajulu informed. With this, Kerala will become the fourth state in the country to do away with printed license completely.
The decision of the transport department is to stop the printing of the license as the first phase and the RC document as the second phase. A person who passes the driving test can download the license on the same day. For the convenience of the user, this can be printed and kept if required. But this is not necessary in the current situation. The license available on DigiLocker can be produced for verification at the required stages. Officials can scan the QR code on it to ensure authenticity.
Printing of Licence, RC and related documents has been stopped for the last few months in the state. In this regard, the Finance Department had recorded some ambiguities in connection with the contract given by the former Minister of Transport, Antony Raju. Transport Commissioner Sreejith and Minister K.B. It is reported that this agreement was the reason for the dispute between Ganesh Kumar. Printing stopped when contractors stopped paying.
At present driving license and RC are not printed for three months. At present, documents are printed only for those who need it, including those going abroad. The government reckons that going digital will solve the problems and eliminate contractors. But there is criticism that the decision was made without conducting a study on whether everyone can use digital facilities.
