Houston ∙ President-elect Donald Trump faced two assassination attempts during the election. Now, with death threats against his cabinet members, a new political debate has emerged in the US.
Donald Trump 2.0 cabinet members and other political appointees have reportedly received bomb threats. The New York Post reported that threats have been made not only to cabinet members but also to their family members. The threats ranged from bomb threats to ‘swatting’. With this, law enforcement and other authorities acted quickly to ensure the safety of those who were threatened. President Trump and the entire transition team expressed satisfaction with the security arrangement.
Officials did not specify who exactly the threat was aimed at. Following Trump’s November 5 election victory, the president-elect has been appointing experts to his cabinet and other top administration positions. Famous people chosen by Trump include Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. They are in charge of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
John Ratcliffe, CIA Director; William McGinley, White House Counsel; Mike Huckabee, Ambassador to Israel; Pete Hegseth, Defense Secretary; Tom Homan, Border Sir; Susie Wiles, White House Chief of Staff and others are included in the team. Notably, these threats come after Trump himself survived two assassination attempts, including one by Thomas Matthew Crooks at a Pennsylvania rally.
Another person believed to be Trump’s killer is Ryan Wesley Routh, who was found hiding at the Trump National Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, with an AK-47, a GoPro camera and other items.
Meanwhile, Mexico came forward against Trump’s tariff announcement. It has warned that about 400,000 US jobs could be lost if the decision goes ahead.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has warned that the Mexican response will be swift if Trump follows through on the plans. He warned that if the US tariffs come, Mexico will also raise the tariffs. Trump announced that he plans to impose 25 percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico, not just China.
Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard has also warned against Trump starting a regional trade war. He made it clear that US workers would have to pay a big ‘price’. “About 400,000 jobs will be lost” in the US, he warned, citing a study based on estimates of US carmakers building in Mexico.
