Controversial remark on differently-abled: PIL against IAS officer dismissed

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has dismissed a PIL against Telangana IAS officer Smita Sabharwal for her controversial remarks on UPSC reservation for differently-abled persons. A PIL was filed by social activist Vasundhara Koppula stating that the officer’s remark was insulting to the differently-abled community.

Telangana High Court Chief Justice Alok Aradhe, Justice J. A bench consisting of Srinivas Rao dismissed the petition stating that it had no merit.

‘Would an airline hire a pilot with a disability? Or would you trust a surgeon with a disability? It takes physical fitness to listen to people’s grievances, asked Smita Sabharwal at X.

After that there were severe criticisms against the officer from various quarters. ‘It is a very pitiful and evasive sight. It demonstrates how bureaucrats show their limited thinking and privileges’. Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi responded to the tweet.
