The connection to your Fritzbox breaks off? Then it might be worth taking a look at the Fritz laboratory. This is what the latest updates bring.
Anyone struggling with connection problems with their FritzBox should now take a look at the Fritz Laboratory. Manufacturer AVM has provided three router models with a laboratory update that can fix these problems. The update affects the FritzBox 5690 Pro, FritzBox 6690 and FritzBox 6670 Cable.
The Fritzbox 5690 Pro is currently one of AVM’s flagship models, but some users are experiencing errors in the WLAN area. This involves a specific combination of settings: the use of Multi-Link Operation (MLO) with WPA2 without Protected Management Frames (PMF). This repeatedly led to disconnections – this should no longer happen with the update.
New in the Fritz Laboratory: Update is intended to solve connection problems with Fritzbox
The Fritzbox 6690 and Fritzbox 6670 Cable cable routers receive improvements to the auto channel mode for radar detection (FDS). This function is important to avoid interference with other wireless systems, such as Bluetooth. This also maximizes WiFi performance. The update is also intended to increase system stability in all three models and lead to more reliable operation.
The updates from the Fritz laboratory are part of the development process at AVM. This allows users to test the new functions and give feedback before they are incorporated into the final FritzOS. You can now download the laboratory versions for your router. This is how the installation works:
- Go to the AVM website and select “Fritz!Labor” in the menu bar.
- Select the appropriate router from the list and click Download. Important: Before the download starts, you must agree to the terms of use for Fritz Labor.
- Unzip the lab version ZIP file.
- Go to the settings of your Fritzbox in the browser.
- Click on System > Update in the menu on the left and select the “Fritz!OS file” tab.
- It is recommended that you back up your settings before installing an update. Enter a password and select “Secure settings”.
- Click on “Select file” and load the unpacked .image file.
- Click “Start Update” and follow the on-screen instructions.
During the update, the router’s information light flashes. The process may take a few minutes, after which the Fritzbox will restart. But be careful: Since these are beta versions, malfunctions can occur. If this happens, you can easily switch back to the official version via System > Update > Fritz!OS Versions.
