The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced on the 26th that sport climbing will be added to the list of events at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The proposal was made by the organizing committee and approved by the board of directors on the same day. This will be the first time sport climbing will be included in the Paralympics. The number of events will be 23.
The IPC approved the same 22 sports as the Tokyo and Paris Games in January last year, and was considering adding sport climbing and surfing. The organizing committee withdrew the proposal to include surfing. Kobayashi Koichiro, co-chair of the Japan Paraclimbing Association, said in an interview on the 27th, “I’m really happy that it’s become a reality. Having the Olympics and Paralympics held at the same venue will make an impact.” (Kyodo News)
