[April19XinhuaNews]At a press conference on the 18th, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce accused the U.S. White House of unfair practices against China, and said that under Article 301 of the Trade Law, steel imports from China would be prohibited.・In response to a question about the announcement that it was planning new restrictive measures, including tripling tariffs on aluminum products, the U.S. responded that the accusations had no basis in fact and that the related measures were typical. China has declared its strong opposition to this unilateralist and protectionist approach.
The spokesperson said: Since 2018, the United States has selectively imposed additional tariffs on the steel and aluminum products of its global trading partners under the guise of “national security,” thereby forcing them to accept unfair terms. It is opposed by many members of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The WTO has ruled that related US measures violate WTO rules.
The United States ignores the global economic and trade order and rules, politicizes economic and trade issues, abuses the so-called Section 301 tariff review process, openly demands arbitrary adjustment of tariffs on Chinese products, and shifts contradictions. It repeats a mistake and does not help solve the problems facing industry in the United States. If the United States pressures other countries to restrict Chinese products, it will undermine the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains.
We urge the United States to face its own problems, stop raising tariffs on Chinese products, and immediately cancel additional tariffs on China. China will take all necessary measures to protect its rights and interests. (c)Xinhua News/AFPBB News
