A shocking revelation has been made regarding Indian Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh’s Canadian show. In fact, Canada’s Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan had demanded 100 Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) soldiers for Diljit Dosanjh’s music show in Vancouver. The minister wanted these Canadian soldiers to dance in the background of Diljit Dosanjh.
According to reports in Canadian media outlets, the minister’s request was later rejected by the army itself. Diljit’s show took place on April 27 at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia. In this show, Canadian soldiers were offered to dance in the background. This concert was a part of Dosanjh’s ‘Dil-Luminati’ tour, which started with a packed stadium of 54,000 people at BC Place. With this, it became the biggest Punjabi music concert outside India. Diljit’s tour started on April 28 and ended on July 13 at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
On July 15, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a surprise visit to Diljit Dosanjh before his concert at Toronto’s Rogers Centre. Dosanjh shared a video of Trudeau’s visit on Instagram, in which he and Trudeau can be seen greeting each other with folded hands. In the video, Trudeau can be seen hugging the Punjabi singer.
Earlier on April 15, Dosanjh’s manager Sonali Singh sent a letter to Indo-Canadian minister Harjit Sajjan requesting Canadian troops to attend Dosanjh’s performance at BC Place on April 27. Sajjan forwarded the letter with his support to Defence Minister Bill Blair. According to a CBC News report, Canadian Armed Forces commanders rejected the request due to “tight deadlines and personnel availability”.
“Diljit Dosanjh is the biggest Punjabi artist in the world and was on the verge of making history as the first Punjabi artist to have a sold-out concert at Vancouver’s largest stadium,” Sajjan’s press secretary Joanna Kanga said. “Minister Sajjan agreed that the concert would be a great opportunity for the Canadian Armed Forces to connect and grow connections with a diverse community of young Canadians,” she said, adding that this was why the minister wanted to call on the soldiers as background dancers.
