[Ta Kung Pao]In the case of the dismemberment of socialite Cai Tianfeng, the deceased’s ex-husband Kwong Kong Chi and his family of four were charged with murder and obstruction of justice. Kwong Kong Chi was involved in another theft case. He admitted to 6 counts of theft and 1 count of failing to return to custody as designated by the court without reasonable cause. He was sentenced to 42 months in prison yesterday (19th).
Jumped bail and absconded for more than seven years
The case stated that the defendant, Kwong Kong-chi, met six young men through websites or mobile social applications between 2013 and 2015, and successively lured them to buy gold jewelry for investment. After obtaining the gold jewelry, he disappeared. The gold jewelry involved a total of 35 necklaces, 31 bracelets, 13 gold bars, 102 gold grains, 6 pendants, and 10 taels of gold bars, all of which belonged to the other six people, with a total value of 6.3 million. The case was originally scheduled to go to trial in November 2015, but the defendant jumped bail and absconded. More than 7 years later, he was arrested for suspected murder of Cai Tianfeng.
District Court acting judge Cheung Chi-wai pointed out yesterday that Kwong Kong-chi was not motivated by greed at the moment, but was clearly deliberate in committing the crime and had systematically lobbied the victim. He was sentenced to a total of 42 months in prison for seven crimes.
