The ‘Chuseok People’s Gift Set’ made with our agricultural and marine products, including the London Bagel Museum’s sweet red bean rice bagel and Seonggyeong Food’s seaweed wrapper, made a surprise appearance at the State Council meeting on the 3rd.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that they presented processed foods made from domestic agricultural and marine products and Chuseok gift sets at a Cabinet meeting held at the Government Complex Seoul on this day.

The People’s Gift Set consists of Korean beef, rice, abalone, and hairtail to ease the burden on consumers and promote the consumption of agricultural and marine products. The government has decided to sell the People’s Gift Set at a discount of up to 50% through Hanaro Mart, Suhyup Mart, and Nonghyup Mall nationwide.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs introduced processed rice foods such as bagels, cookies, and plant-based rice drinks made with powdered rice, which is preferred as a new food material, and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries introduced fish cakes and yanggaeng made with marine products such as abalone and seaweed.

Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Song Mei-ling and Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyung suggested to State Council members that the Chuseok gift sets be used to share feelings with acquaintances during this year’s Chuseok.

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said, “I hope that this Chuseok gift set will convey warm hearts and serve as an opportunity to understand the difficulties of rural and fishing villages and overcome them together.”

He then asked the State Council members to “pay attention so that the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to create a livelihood gift set to promote consumption of agricultural, fishery, and food products can bear fruit, and also spur livelihood efforts.”
