Bulgaria (AFP, September 18) – The Bulgarian Ministry of Defense announced on the 18th that the first explosive-carrying drone on its territory was found in a town on the Black Sea, and a specialist navy team detonated it.

According to the ministry, on the 17th, staff at a hotel in Tyulenovo reported that an object resembling a large drone was being launched, and a specialized team was dispatched. “Upon investigation, an 82mm mortar shell was found attached to the remains of the drone.”

Based on the condition of the shell, it was determined that it would be impossible to move it, so the same team conducted a controlled explosion at the scene.

Defense Minister Todor Tagarev told reporters: “We naturally see it as being related to the war that Russia has waged in Ukraine,” adding, “This war is inevitably a threat to our security.” “This poses an increased risk to insurance.”

Since the start of the invasion of Ukraine, the Bulgarian Navy has detonated four mines found in territorial waters, but this is the first time an unmanned aircraft carrying explosives has been discovered. (c)AFP
