A retired British general, Richard Barons, says that the British government is “betraying” the previous government of Afghanistan by not transferring its special forces, and it is a “shame”.
According to a BBC report, these members of Afghanistan’s special forces fought side by side with the British forces against the Taliban and fled to Pakistan with their families after the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan. Now they have to leave that country or they will be deported.
The number of these former soldiers reaches 200, and after returning to Afghanistan, they may face retaliatory attacks by the Taliban.
This British general has served in the army of his country for more than 12 years. He told BBC Newsnight: “Britain’s failure to relocate these troops is a shame because it shows that we are either two-faced or indifferent as a nation. .. Both of these are not acceptable.
Baroness added that this is “betrayal” and “the price of this betrayal is the lives of people who have served us, who will either be killed or spend their lives in prison.”
In 2021, the former Prime Minister of Great Britain, Boris Johnson, told the Parliament that the services of these Afghan soldiers are valuable and Britain will do everything in its power for their safe transfer.
In addition to these special forces, 32 other Afghan politicians, who worked with the British, are in Pakistan. They do not have any document to leave Pakistan to any other country.
The majority of these Afghans had fled to Pakistan without any documents to go to Britain through the transfer process there.
According to the BBC report, the majority of their requests have been rejected and some others have been waiting for a response for a year. Islamabad announced some time ago that it will deport all Afghans who, according to the authorities, do not have legal documents to live in Pakistan. So far, about 500,000 Afghans have returned to their country from Pakistan or have been forced to leave Pakistan.
