Bolivia military coup: demands for government to step down

In South America, the military has surrounded the presidential palace in Bolivia in what is seen as a de facto coup.

On the 26th, armed army troops surrounded the presidential palace in La Paz, Bolivia. President Arce said in a video statement to his cabinet members, “We are facing a coup.”

It is believed to be led by General Zúñiga, who was fired as Army Commander-in-Chief, and he has called for the current government to step down, saying “we are going to take back our country.”

According to local media, no one was injured.

In 2019, former Bolivian President Morales was forced to resign following a military coup.
