Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has sprained his left ankle, the Spanish club announced on February 11, with domestic media reporting he will be out for up to three weeks.

In a statement, Real said Bellingham had been “diagnosed with a severe sprain.”

Bellingham, who is a team-leading scorer with 20 goals from 29 appearances this season, will miss Chelsea’s first game of the Champions League knockout stage against RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

Bellingham, who suffered the injury after scoring two goals in Saturday’s league match against Girona, is expected to miss the next three league games but could return for the second leg against Leipzig on March 6.

Real have been plagued by a string of injuries this season, with Thibaut Courtois, David Alaba and Eder Militao all out for long periods, while attacking centre-man Vinicius Junior also suffers from a number of problems.
