The Banten Regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit arrested five perpetrators of the theft conspiracy and murder towards truck drivers. Police said the perpetrators faced the death penalty.

Head of Public Relations of the Banten Regional Police, Commissioner Pol Didik Hariyanto, said that the five perpetrators arrested had the initials, FR (51), BN (53), RR (56), HD (33) and WH (33). Didik said the murder incident occurred on Saturday (21/9) yesterday on the side of the Merak-Jakarta KM 77 toll road.

Didik revealed that initially the perpetrators FR and BN pretended to be riding in the truck driven by the victim. Upon arrival at the location, the two perpetrators immediately committed murder by stabbing the victim.

“In the middle of the journey, precisely at KM 77 of the Merak-Jakarta toll road, one of the perpetrators asked to stop at the side of the road for the reason of urinating, then when the driver was careless, one of the perpetrators smothered the driver using a sarong over his mouth, and one of the perpetrators “who was pretending to urinate got back into the truck, and the perpetrators immediately stabbed the driver using knives alternately and hit the driver’s neck and chest,” said Didik from a written statement received by detikcom, Wednesday (2/10/2024 ).

After carrying out the murder, the two perpetrators threw the victim’s body on the side of the road. Not only that, the two perpetrators also took the victim’s truck which was carrying 35,000 kilograms of crystal sugar. According to Didik, the sugar was then sold by perpetrator H, to other perpetrators RR and WH.

“Next, the perpetrators took a truck carrying 700 bags of rose brand white crystal sugar weighing around 35,000 kilograms, with the aim of selling it to collectors who had communicated with the perpetrators previously,” he added.

Banten Regional Police Criminal Investigation Directorate AKBP Dian Setyawan added that two of the five perpetrators were shot in the leg because they resisted when they were about to be arrested. Dian said the police were still hunting for four other perpetrators who were on the wanted list (DPO).

“When investigators were carrying out inquiries and investigations, two suspects resisted the members, and finally, measurable firm action was taken against the two perpetrators,” he said.

Dian said the perpetrators were suspected of carrying out the murder in a planned manner. Dian stated that the perpetrators were charged with multiple articles.

“To be held accountable for their actions, the perpetrators are subject to multiple articles, namely Article 340 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 338 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 365 of the Criminal Code concerning premeditated murder and/or the crime of murder and/or the crime of theft with violence, the threat of the death penalty or life imprisonment or a maximum of 20 years,” he concluded.
