[Reporter Ling Miyuki/Reporting from Taipei]The Japanese animated film “Grave of the Fireflies” is adapted from Nosaka Akiyoshi’s semi-autobiographical novel “Grave of the Fireflies”. The content tells the tragic story of a brother and sister who survived the war during World War II. In view of the international situation in recent years Nervous, Hong Kong Theater Space obtained the original work authorization and cooperated with Japan’s Shinchoshasha to launch the Cantonese musical “Grave of the Fireflies” in Hong Kong in 2022. The Chinese version started touring in Taiwan starting yesterday (27th).
Hong Kong Theater Space is good at producing all kinds of musicals. It has been invited to the Tainan Arts Festival twice to perform “Three Landscapes from Three Postcards”, “A Lost Time in Two Cities” and collaborated with the Ruan Opera Troupe in “The Princess of the Capital”. Presenting a new Chinese musical “Grave of the Fireflies” this time, artistic creative director Yu Zhenqiu said that he hopes to remind the world of “the cruelty of war” and “the value of family love” through music, song and dance.
Theater Space stated that the Cantonese musical “Grave of the Fireflies” received an overwhelming response in Hong Kong and was even shortlisted for Best Original Music at the 2023 Hong Kong Drama Awards. The young actress Lai Ruiyan, who plays the role of the little girl “Setsuko” in the play, although young, has excellent acting and singing skills. Hong Kong independent media commentator Ho Chun-fai praised “Singing “Marble Candy” three times can sing three different roles.
