[Reporter Dong Baiting/Reporting from Taipei]The 2024 Taipei Landscape Public Art Project, with the theme of “Trace of the City’s Deeds,” will be launched around MRT Beimen Station. Through three sets of landscape public art works, the historical memories of the past are embodied through inspirations such as maps, sounds, objects, etc., and the development context and future prospects of Taipei City are explored.
The three artists shape their works through steps such as observation, recall, and prediction. Respectively, Li Baijun’s “Taipei Pulse” is inspired by the traffic changes in the North Gate in various periods, and uses light strips to associate with the huge traffic flow around the North Gate, showing the kinetic energy of Taipei’s changes in various periods; Liao Weicheng and the art team parked in ANKR (Chen Boxuan, Ye Zhihang )’s “Sound of the Ruins” uses heterogeneous materials and architectural structures paired with the emerging technology “Playtron MIDI” controller, allowing the public to recreate the street sounds of Taipei when the city was built by touching the work; Wu Qianyi’s “Casting Shapes” 〉Using a multi-layered symbolic collage composition, the base outside the north gate is integrated with the historical traces of being used as a weapons repair and Taipei factory, and the material trace lines of object symbols are drawn.
