Muhammad Abu Salmiya, director of al-Shafa Hospital
On Friday, November 24th, the World Health Organization (WHO) expressed its concern over the fate of the director of al-Shafa, the largest hospital in Gaza City, who was arrested by Israeli forces.
The Israeli army announced yesterday in a statement that it arrested Muhammad Abu Salmiya, the director of al-Shafa hospital, after “evidence shows that the Hamas group, under its management, used this hospital as a market center and its administration”.
The World Health Organization said in a statement that the director of al-Shafa Hospital along with five other health workers were arrested on Wednesday while they were participating in the United Nations mission to evacuate patients.
In the statement of the World Health Organization, it is said: “Three employees of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and three people from the Ministry of Health (Gaza) were arrested.”
Since then, two of the detainees have been released, but the statement said: “We have no information about the health status of the remaining four employees, including the director of al-Shafa Hospital.”
This United Nations agency demands full respect of legal and human rights of those arrested.
On November 15th (24th of Scorpio), Israeli soldiers entered Al-Shafa Hospital in Gaza and launched an operation in this hospital.
Israel and the United States say that the terrorist group Hamas has its market center and administration in the tunnels under which the hospital is built, but the officials of the hospital and the Hamas group have denied these accusations.
According to the statement of the World Health Organization, this organization has carried out three evacuation missions from Al-Shifa Hospital in one week, and managed to evacuate 31 babies from the hospital.
According to this organization, in the third evacuation mission carried out on Wednesday in cooperation with the Palestinian Red Crescent, 151 people, including patients, relatives and employees, were evacuated safely.
The United Nations has said that at least 2,300 people, including patients, medical staff and civilians, have been displaced and are still trapped there.
Meanwhile, Israel and Hamas announced early Wednesday morning, November 22, that they have reached an agreement on a four-day ceasefire. This ceasefire was brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States.
A four-day truce between Israel and Hamas in Gaza will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, November 24 (Sunday), when the authorities of Qatar and the two sides exchanged a total of 52 prisoners and hostages.
