Berlin ∙ A 61-year-old man was killed in a knife attack in the Sarsreide in Hanover, the capital of Lower Saxony, Germany. The attack was carried out by a 35-year-old Iraqi refugee. The accused, who fled after the incident, was caught by the police.
The murdered person was the owner of the refugee center where the accused lived. Accused has been charged with murder. The attack took place near the railway station. The police found the accused based on witness statements and surveillance cameras. International media reported that a knife was found at the scene of the crime.
It is yet to be confirmed whether the knife was the weapon used in the murder. The motive of the suspect is not yet clear. The police also stated that they have not received any evidence of a terrorist background. Authorities are worried that this incident will affect the operation of the refugee shelter in Sarsrerad.
