Android 15 may cause a catastrophic error on certain smartphone models. Which cell phones are affected?
Android 15 is here – and it causes numerous problems. After numerous users complained that the update rendered their Samsung phones useless, Google’s Pixel devices themselves are now also affected by an error.
As the “Android Police” portal reports, the worst case scenario for the Pixel 6 is “bricking,” as it is called in English. The hardware becomes completely unusable and the cell phone essentially becomes a useless “brick”. Anyone who owns a Pixel 6 risks total loss with the update to Android 15.
Android 15 leads to total loss: problems with the Google Pixel 6
User on Reddit reported that there were problems opening the “Private Space” function after the update. This is intended to offer more privacy, for example by allowing apps to be hidden. Instead, the cell phones of those affected are “completely dead.” Even the usual troubleshooting methods, such as connecting the device to a computer, did not help. “I’m going to buy a brand new Pixel now because my phone is just a paperweight,” writes one frustrated user.
Other users say that their Pixel became a “brick” purely by chance after the update – without having opened the “Private Space”. Therefore, it is still unclear what the exact cause of the serious system error is. Users should not install the update on their Pixel 6 for now.
It’s not the first time that the Pixel 6 has had problems after an update. When Android 14 was rolled out, some users were locked out of their data storage by the update. In some cases, the devices were stuck in an eternal boot loop and no longer started properly. Only a patch was able to fix most of the problems.
