According to CBS, on June 17 local time, the prosecutor’s office of Guerrero State, Mexico, said in a statement that the newly elected mayor of Copala, Salvador Villalva Flores, was shot and killed on the highway.Prosecutors said they had opened an investigation into the murder but declined to provide further details, the report said.

CBS quoted local media reports as saying that at the time of the incident, Salvador Villalba Flores was pulled out of the car and shot.

It is reported that Salvador Villalva Flores was elected as the city’s new mayor in the election on June 2 and was originally scheduled to take office on October 1.

Data reportedly shows that several political candidates have been killed since the Mexican campaign season began in September 2023.
