The regional tournament for the 106th All Japan High School Baseball Championship (hosted by the Japan High School Baseball Federation, sponsored by The Asahi Shimbun Company, supported by The Mainichi Shimbun Company, with special cooperation from Hanshin Koshien Stadium) was held on the 30th, with St. Catherine’s School defeating Saijo in the final in Ehime to secure their first appearance, completing the selection of all 49 representatives.

Nine schools will be participating in both spring and summer tournaments, including Kendai Takasaki (Gunma), which won its first championship in the spring Senbatsu Tournament, and Hotoku Gakuen (Hyogo), which came in second for two consecutive years. Five schools will be participating for the first time, including Seiwa Gakuen (Miyagi) and Niigata Sangyo University High School, which will be participating in both spring and summer Koshien for the first time. Sapporo Nihon University (South Hokkaido), Ishibashi (Tochigi), and St. Catherine Gakuen have secured their first tickets to the summer Koshien tournament.

Ten schools have participated in the summer tournament consecutively, with Meiho (Oita) having the longest streak of four years in a row. The school with the most appearances is Waseda Jitsugyo (West Tokyo), which participated in the first tournament in 1915, with 30 appearances. The longest break is for Taisha (Shimane), who has not participated for 32 years, and Kakegawa Nishi (Shizuoka), who will also be returning to the summer Koshien for the first time in 26 years. Ten schools have won the summer tournament, including Chukyo University Chukyo (Aichi), which has won the championship seven times, the most in history. There are 12 public schools, an increase of three from the previous tournament.

The draw for the pairings will be held in Osaka City from 2 pm on August 4th. The tournament will be held from the 7th to the 17th (including 3 rest days) at Hanshin Koshien Stadium in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
