AVM is launching a new Fritzbox. The Fritzbox 4050 is designed to offer WLAN according to the latest standards – at a lower price.
Whether for fiber optic, DSL or cable connection: Fritzbox routers are available in many different versions. With a new model, the Berlin manufacturer AVM wants to cover another niche for which there was previously no suitable Fritzbox. What does the new Fritzbox 4050 offer?
The devices in the 4 series are WLAN routers without an integrated modem. A connection to an existing modem router or an external modem is necessary, which is the case with many fiber optic connections. However, there has not yet been an inexpensive alternative to the top model in the series, the Fritzbox 4060*Those who wanted to save money also had to make compromises in terms of performance, because older models such as the 4040 or 4020 are not designed for the latest WLAN standards. The Fritzbox 4050 is intended to close this gap in the AVM range.
Cheaper – but with the latest technology: This is what the Fritzbox 4050 offers
The new model can be easily connected to an existing fiber optic modem and delivers fast Internet according to the latest standards. Equipped with WiFi 6 and mesh technology, WiFi data rates of up to 3 gigabits per second are possible, according to a Press release from AVMThe Fritzbox 4050 is a dual-band device and operates on both 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies. The router also supports DECT, which means it can serve as a base for up to six cordless telephones or smart home devices. An analog telephone can also be used via the Fon connection.

In addition to the WAN port for connecting to the modem, the Fritzbox 4050 has a USB 2.0 port and three LAN ports. This allows various devices such as external hard drives, printers, game consoles and smart TVs to be integrated into the home network. The usual functions of the FritzOS operating system are of course also on board. These include parental controls, media server, VPN with Wireguard, WLAN guest access and remote access to the device via MyFritz.
The Fritzbox 4050 from AVM costs 139 euros – around 100 euros less than the Fritzbox 4060 – and is now available in stores.
