As the US presidential election draws near, there have been a number of arson incidents of mail-in ballot boxes.
Early on the 28th in Vancouver, Washington, in the western United States, a fire broke out in a ballot box used to drop off mail-in ballots.
The fire, believed to have been started with an incendiary device, was extinguished by authorities, but hundreds of ballots were reportedly burned.
Shortly before this, it appears that some ballot boxes in neighboring Portland, Oregon, were set on fire with an incendiary device, and three ballots were burned.
Authorities suspect that the crimes were committed by the same perpetrator, and have released the vehicle used in the crime for investigation, as well as strengthening patrol patrols.
