Several Iranian security sources and media have said that a senior member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps was killed in an Israeli airstrike near Damascus, the capital of Syria.
Some sources told the Reuters news agency that the dead senior military official was Seyed Reza Mousavi, who coordinated the military alliance between Syria and Iran, and was killed in an airstrike on Monday, December 25 (Marghumi 4th).
Iran’s state TV also confirmed Mousavi’s death and said he was one of Iran’s senior military advisers in Syria.
The reports also stated that Mousavi was a close associate of the former commander of Iran’s Quds Force, General Qasem Soleimani. Soleimani was killed in a US airstrike in 2022 near Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.
He is the second senior military commander of the Quds Force after Soleimani to be killed in an airstrike from the country.
Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi said about Mousavi’s death, “Israel will pay the price of this crime without a doubt.”
According to Mr. Raisi, the state news agency IRNA said that this general was killed in the south of Damascus.
The report stated that Mousavi provided logistical support to the resistance axis in Syria.
The Revolutionary Guards have said that they will take revenge for the death of their leader.
Hossein Akbari, Iran’s ambassador to Syria, told Mehr news agency that three missiles hit the house where the general lived, and the building was destroyed.
Although the army of Israel has not specifically commented on this incident, but the army of this country has been targeting the militias in Syria for years, which Iran is behind.
