[KOREA WAVE, April 5th]The trial was held on the 2nd in Daegu District Court in South Korea, where a civil servant defendant (35), who secretly recorded a dialogue between his boss and his colleague who had been harassing power on a daily basis at work and submitted it as evidence, was charged with violating the Communications Secrets Act, and the prosecutors requested one year in prison.

In December 2021, the defendant was charged with secretly recording a dialogue that his boss (59) had with two colleagues in an office in Gyeongbuk Ulchin-gun, Gyeongbuk, and reporting his colleagues as power harassment.

According to investigators, power harassment in the workplace has been frequently featured, such as bosses who normally groping bad things about staff.

The Communications Secret Protection Act prohibits secret recordings from the public by third parties who are not involved in the dialogue from leaking secret recordings to the public, and there is a penalty of imprisonment of more than one year and up to 10 years.

In his comment, the prosecutor said, “The defendant violated his freedom of personal life.”

The defense stated, “We recorded the recording to find evidence of power harassment. If convicted, they will be removed from office. We ask for a wise decision.”
