Regarding the explosion of pager-type communication devices carried by fighters of the Shiite Islamic organization Hezbollah in Lebanon, several media outlets have reported that the devices may have contained explosives.
On the 17th, pager-type communication devices carried by Hezbollah fighters exploded simultaneously across Lebanon, and according to Lebanese health authorities, at least nine people have been killed and 2,750 injured, with more than 200 of them in critical condition.
Several media outlets have reported that the device may have contained explosives, and Al Jazeera reported, citing Lebanese officials, that it was imported into Lebanon from abroad five months ago.
The Associated Press also reported that Hezbollah acquired the equipment after Hezbollah’s leader, Sheikh Nasrallah, ordered his fighters to stop using mobile phones in February to avoid detection by Israeli intelligence.
Israel has not yet issued a statement about the explosions, but Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for them and has threatened retaliatory attacks.
