[June 18, KOREA WAVE]The Chuncheon District Court in South Korea recently sentenced a male defendant (36) to eight months in prison with two years of probation for special intimidation and other crimes after he became enraged upon hearing that his cousin was getting married and drove his car at the cousin.
According to the verdict, the defendant rammed his car into his cousin near her home in Yanggu County, Gangwon Province, at around 2:20 p.m. on November 4 last year.
When his mother told him, “Why aren’t you getting married? Your cousin is getting married,” he became enraged and visited his cousin to confirm the facts before threatening him.
About an hour earlier, the defendant had visited another cousin’s home in Yanggu and asked his wife and daughter where the cousin was. When they said he was not there, he began knocking on the living room window and wandering around shouting insults at them.
The district court stated, “We took into consideration the fact that the defendant admitted his mistake and the victim did not want the defendant to be punished.”
