Japan’s first “drone fireworks show” using drones equipped with fireworks will be held in Kagoshima City on the 24th. Immediately after the ceremony for the “22nd Kagoshima Kinko Bay Summer Night Fireworks Festival” from 7:30 pm for about 15 minutes, 500 drones equipped with fireworks will fly, forming a flaming firebird and “something” that evokes the city in the night sky.

According to the city, the drone fireworks show will be the first to be held in cooperation with DeNA, a special sponsor of the festival. Red Cliff (Tokyo), which plans and manages drone shows, will be in charge of directing the show.

In recent years, shows combining drone technology with fireworks have been gaining popularity in the United States, Dubai (United Arab Emirates), China, Singapore, etc. Because drones are operated remotely, they have the advantage of improving worker safety compared to regular fireworks displays, and reducing the burden on the environment by producing less smoke and residue.

The city’s tourism promotion department is enthusiastic about “increasing the number of fans of Kagoshima with Japan’s first drone fireworks show.”

The Kagoshima Kinko Bay Summer Night Fireworks Festival is Kyushu’s largest fireworks festival, with approximately 15,000 fireworks illuminating the night sky with Sakurajima in the background. Last year, it attracted 150,000 visitors.
