In response to the restart of Unit 2 of Tohoku Electric Power’s Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant (Onagawa Town, Miyagi Prefecture, Ishinomaki City) on the 29th, the business community said, “A big step has been taken. We are making steady preparations to ensure a smooth start of commercial operations.” “I want them to move forward with this,” said Masakazu Tokura, chairman of the Japan Business Federation.

It will be the first boiling water reactor (BWR) in Japan to restart operations, similar to the Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, and Tsuyoshi Niinami, representative secretary of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives, said, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to local governments and related parties in the area where the site was located, which suffered great damage from the earthquake. I would like to express my respect for your efforts.”

Ken Kobayashi, president of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized, “I hope that efforts will be made with safety as the top priority.”
