To mark the 83rd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor by the former Japanese military, a memorial ceremony was held in Hawaii, USA.

On the 7th, a moment of silence was held at Pearl Harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, to commemorate the approximately 2,400 people who died at 7:55 a.m. when the attack by the former Japanese military began 83 years ago.

The ceremony was held in a plaza overlooking the Arizona Memorial, which stands on top of the USS Arizona, which sank into the sea and killed more than 1,100 people.

Nikki, the grandson of Donald Stratton, a crew member on the USS Arizona who survived severe burns and died in 2020 at the age of 97, said, “(My grandfather’s generation) was not just about ships and fleets, but more importantly… “We have rebuilt our faith in humanity, which is so important to humanity, and our fortitude to secure a bright future,” he said, expressing his thoughts based on the story passed down by Donald.

Nikki urges us to hold on to these lessons not only as a way of paying homage to those who came before us, but also as a promise to those who come after us.

Also, at the ceremony, gratitude was expressed to Lou Conter, who as the last survivor of the USS Arizona, repeatedly emphasized the importance of peace and who passed away in April 2024 at the age of 102.
