18-year-old high school student Aira Kinoshita wins bronze medal, first medal for a female intellectually disabled swimmer at the Paris Paralympics

On the 8th day of the Paris Paralympics, Aira Kinoshita (18) of Mitsubishi Corporation won the bronze medal in the women’s 200m individual medley (intellectual disability). According to the Japan Intellectual Disability Swimming Federation, this is the first time a Japanese woman with intellectual disabilities has won a medal in swimming.

Kinoshita is a third-year student at Shijonawate Gakuen High School in Osaka, and placed second at last year’s World Championships. He won three gold medals at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games.
