16 Crore Educational Scholarship of Malabar Group for Girls

Malabar Group announces Rs 16 crore educational scholarships to benefit 21,000 girls The scholarships were announced at the national level as part of women empowerment in the social commitment project implemented by the Malabar Group. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal inaugurated the scholarship scheme, which will be a milestone in the company’s CSR activities, at a function held at the Bharat Diamond Exchange, BKC, Mumbai. The scholarship announcement is a milestone in Malabar Group’s mission of women empowerment. Malabar Group Chairman MP Ahmed presided over the function.

Malabar Group Chairman MP Ahmed said that education is the best way to bring change in the world and through it more opportunities will be created and life will be transformed. He said that education scholarships aim to remove barriers in front of girls to get better education, empower them to fulfill their aspirations and make meaningful contributions to the society.

Vice Chairman KP Abdul Salam, Malabar Group India Operations Managing Director O. Usher, Group Executive Director A. K Nishad, Mahendra Brothers Director Shaunak Parikh and others participated in the event.


Malabar Group has been carrying out various social responsibility activities since its inception. 5 percent of the company’s profits are earmarked for the Malabar Charitable Trust. The National Scholarship Scheme for Girls was started in 2007. Over Rs 60 crore has already been spent to provide scholarships to more than 95,000 girls across India.

‘Hunger Free World’ project

Apart from educational scholarships, the most important of Malabar Group’s CSR activities is the ‘Hunger Free World’ project, which aims to provide early food to the hungry. Under this, nutritious food packets are distributed to 50,000 people daily in 80 cities of 16 states of India. Apart from this, 10,000 food packets are given daily to school students in the African country of Zambia. Malabar Group aims to provide food packages to one lakh people daily at 200 centres. The Malabar Group is implementing the ‘Hunger Free World’ project in collaboration with ‘Tanal’, a voluntary organization working in the field of social services.

Grantma Home Scheme

The Malabar Group has also started the ‘Grantma Home’ project to protect the poor and destitute women of the society by providing free accommodation with all facilities. Now there are ‘Grantma’ homes in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Grantma Homes will soon be established in major cities of Kerala as well as in Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai.

CSR projects aimed at empowering the marginalized include medical assistance for the poor, assistance in housing construction, financial assistance for marriage of poor women, etc. Malabar Group has already spent more than Rs.263 crores on various social commitment projects.
