Most of the information on a driver’s license is self-explanatory. In some places, however, you may wonder what exactly is behind the individual symbols. On the back of the document you can see 3 columns with the headings “10th”, “11th” and “12th” for the driving license classes. What are these columns for?

Sometimes there is only a line or nothing at all in the columns, sometimes there is an asterisk in some cells

What does field 12 mean on the driving license?

  • The columns have different meanings. The numbers in the headings continue the count from the first page. This is what lies behind it: Column 9 gives the different driving license classes
  • to. In field 10 it says the date on which the driving license was issued
  • was granted for the respective class. There can also be a date in field 11. Then the driving license is limited in time andonly valid until this day

The classes for which the driving license was issued can also be found on the front bottom left under point 9. There, for example, is the letter “B” (motor vehicles with a total mass of up to 3,500 kilograms).

What does field 12 mean on the driving license? Column 12 is forRestrictions, requirements and additional information n provided. Certain requirements can be entered there that only apply to the driving license class in the left column. The information is coded with key numbers and applies to all areas in the EU. For example, it tells you whether you need a prosthesis, visual aid or hearing aid to drive vehicles of the corresponding class. Technical information is also coded here. The numbers tell you that the driver’s license holder is only allowed to drive a vehicle of the corresponding class with an adapted clutch or additional interior devices.
